At the heart of Laikipia County is the exclusive Sirai House, owned by a British billionaire, Micheal Spencer where only a couple of millions will book you a stay at the lodge tucked at the highest point of 35,000-acre Borana Conservancy.

Sirai has given a new definition to the remote ridge at the foot of Mt Kenya, near the Olive-ridden Ngare Ndare Forest. It’s a household name among the high and mighty from across the world. It is host to the world’s most exclusive clientele; from international movie stars to renowned athletes and global business personalities.

It stands as a modern-day African lodge with six suites built below Sirai trees – the Maasai name for euphorbia tree – alongside evenly spaced indigenous cedar surrounding the houses. The rooms are exclusively booked for a minimum of three nights, they have a great view of the vast conservancy.

Sirai House has a private winery with over 3,000 wine brands, a clay tennis court, gym, pool, a fully equipped library, horse riding and safari walks among other outstanding facilities. However, the best part of Sirai House is the Big Five. The conservancy is home to leopards, elephants, lions, buffalos and rhinos which are sighted during a game drive. Other animals at the conservancy include cheetahs, gravy zebras, antelopes, hyena, impala, oryx and baboons.

A direct flight from Nairobi to Nanyuki drops you off at Lewa Downs Conservancy where visitors are picked and driven to Sirai House, approximately an hour away. For those travelling on private chartered flights, Borana Conservancy has an airstrip.
