1. Namibia

Well, there’s no better way to explore desert landscapes and mountains while making unique outdoor activities than during this period.

While in Namibia, ensure you visit Sossusvlei and Damaraland. Sossusvlei is well-known for its picturesque sand dunes whereas the breath-taking mountains of Damaraland is home to unique animals that know how to survive in the desert.

2. South Africa 

Welcoming the nearing Springtime, winter coats are put aside and replaced by light jackets in August in South Africa. The sun is always shining as the clouds are few and rain is non-existent.

This is the start of whale-watching season in South Africa’s western region as southern right whales are slowly making their way back from the Antarctic to breed in the warmer waters of the Atlantic. The best place to travel to is the Walker Bay as these aquatic mammals find the waters bordering Hermanus as an ideal spot for mating.

3. Botswana 

If you’re someone who can stand a bit of heat, then Botswana should be on your plans this August. Chobe National Park should be your ideal destination as the game viewing is nothing but sensational. During this period, herds of elephants and buffaloes as well as other animals concentrate around the Chobe and Serondela River. Apart from watching the wildlife from one spot, you can also get a Chobe River boat cruise to view the abundant wildlife drawn to the riverbanks.

4. Kenya 

Well, you can’t talk about the best African countries to visit in August and fail to mention Kenya. During this period, the weather in Kenya is pretty mild. Temperatures are about 22 degree Celsius during the day and 14 degree Celsius at night. As a result, tourists are advised to carry light jackets to wear.

One of the reasons many tourists visit Kenya is to go on an African safari and witness the country’s amazing wildlife. The East African country also has some excellent snorkelling and diving off the breathtaking coast. In Kenya’s marine parks, you’ll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with dolphins, sharks and turtles.

5. Mozambique 

August is one of the best months to visit Mozambique. It’s slightly warmer than June and July, with average temperatures in the south being between 17 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Pemba, Mozambique Island, and the Quirimbas are usually a few degrees warmer.

If you love beaches, head straight to the Bazaruto Archipelago where you’ll be greeted by some of the best stretches of sand on the planet. Here, you’ll swim alongside plenty of marine life in the crystal-clear waters. If you want to spot the Big Five as well as other rare wildlife species, head to Gorongosa National Park.
