Lake Nakuru National Park is a haven for wildlife and birds in Kenya. It is an all-year park worth every minute of your visit. The park, surrounded by lush vegetation on the floor of Rift Valley has one of the most enviable ecological diversity with a lake, escarpment, a park, waterfall and breathtaking landscape.
The park is symbolic with pink flamingos – there are other bird species including pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles.
The most visited region of the park is the southern part of the lake. Wild animals usually on this part include the endangered white and black rhino. Black rhinos concentration in the park is the highest in the country. The rhinos stroll along the banks of the lake from the acacia forest in the southern end of Lake Nakuru which is marked by towering euphorbia tree and spiralling hills. The Flamingo Hill, located below the acacia forest at the park is a harbour for tree-climbing lions as well as leopards. Endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe, zebras, antelopes, cheetahs, buffalos, impala, hyena, colobus monkeys, waterbucks call this part of Lake Nakuru Water Park home.
Due to the rocky nature of the woodlands, African Rock Pythons are seen hanging in the trees and if you are lucky enough, you could catch them in action, strangling and swallowing their prey.
Besides the wildlife spectacle, hiking safaris are also available.
