“After 4 years of serving Kenya Tourism Federation as Chairman, my two-term of 4 years has come to an end as I pass the baton to Fred Odek of Silver Tours who was my vice-Chair for the same period,” he says in a farewell message.
The hotelier based in Mombasa adds, “I would like to thank the entire board and the industry for the support they accorded me during my tenure.”

But who is this tourism icon with such a God-given interest in the country’s tourism industry? Well, here is everything you need to know.
Hersi was born and bred in Kenya. His passion for the hotel industry was always in his system. He joined the industry many years ago, intending to make it better.

“It was a challenging period, but I leave KTF a stronger voice on matters Tourism as the umbrella body. I also want to thank Government for all the support they have given us.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the new team will raise the bar to an even higher level,” Mohammed Hersi on his exit.
Kenya Tourism Federation is an umbrella body for the private sector with operations in the hospitality industry. It has an elaborate Safety and Communication Centre that safeguards the pride of the industry.
KTF aims to represent the interests of eight players in the sector.
They include Tour Operators, Hotelkeepers and Caterers, Travel Agents, Air Operators, Mombasa & Coast Tourism, The Pubs Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya, Ecotourism Kenya, and Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association.
Whereas each association works very hard on its own, its ability to effectively address the entire industry’s concerns is limited. Thus, the priority needs of one association’s membership are pretty different from those of another.
Therefore, KTF works for all the associations as an umbrella body.
