In what could be one of the scariest travel expeditions, a two-day tour at the Fathala Reserve in Senegal gives you a rare opportunity to walk with the lions. The tour costs $470 and it treats you to more than just faun and adrenaline rush as you get to know more and experience the culture of Senegal.

On the first day of the trip, exploration of Kaolack Central Market and a boat ride in Saloum River makes you fall in love with Senegal. Kaolack is close to the Gambia and it deals with African wears including shoes, belts and animal skins.

There are also a lot of peanuts sold here. Traders at the market are friendly and they even teach you how to prepare millet to make couscous. A boat ride at the Saloum River takes you through the mangrove and bird watching sprees. Common species include the white-breasted Comoran, Goliath heron, giant kingfisher, pied kingfisher and the great white heron.

Dinner is served at Hotel Keur Saloum in Toubacouta

The second and final day of the tour takes you to Fathala Reserve for a 2-hour walk with the lions. Fathala is located on the southern side of Senegal, towards its border with The Gambia. The walk begins at the reserve as a pack of lions lead the way while rangers accompany you.
