One of Oran Algeria’s tourist attractions is the Fort Santa Cruz. This is a historical site that you can visit as you walk around the city. The Ottomans and Spaniards built it in the 17th century.

It overlooks the city with an amazing view. You can see the Mediterranean and the Mers El Kebir port. To get there it’s a bit of a hike but it is worth the exercise. You will also get some peace and quiet.

Visit the Once-great Synagogue Turned Mosque

Part of Algeria’s history is the Great Synagogue of Oran. Built in 1880, it has since become the Abdallah Ibn Salam Mosque.

Algeria used to be predominately Jewish. But since independence, the Jews moved to France and now it is predominately Muslim.

The name of the mosque comes from a Jew from the 7th-century who converted to Islam. So in the 1960s, the synagogue became a mosque. If you are into history this Oran, Algeria’s tourist attraction will interest you. It is a great sight to see.

The oldest section of this area is called Casbah. And there is the church of Saint-Lois. There is an old port by the coast of Aidour. You can just imagine the hustle and bustle of the district and feel its life as you walk along.

The historical buildings will blow your mind away. Be sure to set a whole day for this adventure so you do not rush through it.

Look for the speciality dish of the city, it is Kerentica. It is a cake that is made from the flowers of chickpeas and mixed with eggs. You can also get fruit, figs, and sandwiches. Because you can not shop on an empty stomach.
