Who is Chef Maliha?
Maliha was born on October 20, 1983, in Mombasa, Kenya and took up cooking professionally based on her passion. Besides running a successful kitchen trading as Gourmet Cooking 254, she is a culinary judge, an instructor and a cooking gas ambassador. The 40-year-old mother of two started cooking when she was eight years old. She spent most of her time learning how to cook and her mother and grandparents inspired her to keep learning more about culinary art.
Chef Maliha competed in the Royco Fuata Fleva Contest in 2014 and made it to the semifinals. She then left Kenya for the Gulf where she secured a job in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between 2009 and 2010 as a cook for Prince Khalid Bin Mishail Al Saud. Her Arabian cuisines challenged her to return home and start a business in the cooking line and she did so. Luckily, she introduced herself to Kenyans during a cook-a-thon held in 2019 at the Technical University of Kenya. She prepared 100 meals in 36 straight hours of cooking. Not satisfied, she pushed herself to the core until she achieved the record for the longest cooking session in August 2019 by preparing meals for more than 75 hours. This was double the hours she put in during the first cook-a-thon and she dreamed big in 2023 and added 15 minutes to her previous record.
