On the southern part of Burkina Faso there are over 1,000 years old Ruins of Loropeni made of ancient stone in Loropeni town. The Ruins of Loropeni are a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hippos are a common sight at Lake Tengrela which is near the ruins. Interestingly, locals say the hippos are sacred and do not attack people.

Arli National Park measures 760 square kilometres and is Burkina Faso’s most treasured conservancy. It has elephants, hippos, lions, buffaloes and antelopes living in the savanna woodlands and sandstone hills of the conservancy. The gallery forest in the conservancy is a major attraction for tourists.

Ouagadougou Cathedral

Ouagadougou Cathedral’s stunning architecture dates back to 1930. It is also known as Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou. The cathedral’s altar has an effigy of the Virgin as a dedication to Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Sinduo Rock Formation

In Banfora town which borders Lake Tengrela is Sindou Rock Formations popular for rock climbing. This place gives a picturesque view of the lake and part of the countryside.

Bobo-Dioulasso Grand Mosque

In the second-largest city in Burkina Faso, Bobo-Dioulasso, a true picture of 19th-century Sudano-Sahelian architecture still reigns. Bobo-Dioulasso Grand Mosque is one of a kind, made of wooden sticks and mud and amazingly strong- two centuries later. It is a symbol of an agreement made between an ancient local king and Muslim leaders in the city back in the day.
