Nigerian chef Hilda Baci is the latest sensation in the world after crushing the longest cooking marathon ever posted by an individual in the Guinness World Record. Hilda set a new record after posting a record cooking time of 87 hours 46 minutes. She successfully elbowed out Lata Tondon who is the immediate former holder of the longest cooking time.  Tondon posted a record time of 87 hours 45 minutes in 2019, in India and booked herself a slot in the Guinness World Record.

Has Hilda Broken the Record?

Baci cook-a-thon broke the Guinness World Record with 87 hours and 46 minutes of straight cooking. Hilda, kicked off her journey to stardom on Thursday, May 11 at 4 pm and completed it on Monday morning.

Despite a sluggish start on Thursday, she has gained a tremendous amount of love from Nigerians and has become a new sensation at home. Naija celebrities from every corner are encouraged her to keep pushing beyond boundaries Even with her victory, her ambition is to clock 96 hours. As it is now, she is the first person ever to spend so much time cooking and the world acknowledges this.

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci is a restaurant chef currently working at Amore Gardens, in the prestigious Lekki neighbourhood in Lagos.  Her real name is Hilda Effiong, and she is a big name in Naija’s food industry. Despite starting her career as a chef just recently in 2020, she has managed to build a successful brand for herself known as @Myfoodbyhilda. With her recent cook-a-thon success, she started her culinary career in 2020.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic which ravaged the world, she turned to Instagram to ply her trade. That’s how she became a Nigerian food sensation. But who is she and what’s her background like? She is 27 years old and is an Akwa Ibom State native born on September 20, 1996. Cooking is more of a passion for her. The now popular Nigerian chef Hilda Baci is from Akwa Ibom State but is now domiciled in Lagos where she works as a chef at Amore Gardens in Lekki. She pursued a sociology degree from Madonna University Okija. She says that the road to the cook-a-thon dates back to five years ago because getting into the Guinness World Record always pushed her. After acing it in May 2023, she is happy that she accomplished such a monumental feat in life.

“The journey to the cook-a-thon started five years ago. It is one of my biggest aspirations and I am glad that I took the bold step to embark on this adventure. I have taken time to prepare for this psychologically and I am proud to finally take on this challenge,” she told Carmart.ng.

Besides the fame and popularity of what is now Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, she is delighted that she has a different story to tell about Africa. She says the cooking marathon is a perfect opportunity to tell all about the beauty of Africa through food.
