A day after international flights to Egypt resumed, a total of 313 tourists arrived in the country on Thursday.
The tourists from Switzerland and Belarus arrived a day after Egypt lifted international flights suspension occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
It had suspended all flights in late March.
According to the Egyptian Tourism Ministry, “Hurghada airport received a flight carrying 141 Swiss tourists while Sharm el-Sheikh airport received another with 172 Belarusian tourists.
Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar had earlier said that by July 1, 2020, all airports would be re-opened.
Manar maintained that airports across Egypt would be disinfected in readiness for the resumption of operations for all airlines in the country.
He added that as a measure towards taming the spread of coronavirus, there will be no hard copies of magazines or any other publications which could potentially transmit the virus fast.
Also, there will only be dry food and canned drinks being served.
Tourists are now allowed to access the coastal resorts of the country starting July.
Most of the tourist destinations in Egypt have recorded few coronavirus cases.
One of the most affected regions by the pandemic is greater Cairo which has recorded many COVID-19 cases.
A dusk to dawn curfew that had earlier been imposed has been lifted partially as the country looks forward to reviving its economy now in shambles, just like many across the world.
Tourism is a major forex earner for Egypt. In 2019, data from the Tourism Ministry show that the north African country raked in $13 billion from this sector.
