In the pristine Tsavo West National Park in Kenya, there is a home for safari lovers.

Finch Hattons is an exclusive luxury tented camp named after celebrated aviator Finch Hatton who enjoyed his quiet moments here after an eventful hunting spree in this part of the Tsavo. Even after he died in 1931 in a Gypsy Moth crash, his memories were to live on for a lifetime through the Finch Hattons Luxury Tented Camp.

The Finch Hattons Luxury Tented Camp is strategically endowed in its geo-positioning as Mount Kilimanjaro lies to the west, the famous Chyulu Hills to the northwest and expansive African grassland over to the horizon.

This description tells you how biodiversity in the vicinity of the camp is of great importance. Tsavo has a deep dramatic history that is Kenya’s only source of “man-eating tales” in the 19th century and Finch Hattons Luxury Tented Camp only acts as a link between the magical ecological nature of Tsavo West National Park and humankind in such an amazing way.

Finch Hattons which was established in the mid-’90s sits on a 35-acre piece of concessional land with freshwater springs all over and exudes an abundance of wildlife. It was refurbished in 2013 to meet meticulous architectural designs to better the experience of guests in this part of Tsavo.

The camp’s exclusive presidential canvas is astoundingly marvellous. The architectural design around has it perched towards the edge of a freshwater spring which is home to hippos, crocodiles and a lot of birds.

Full-service spas are lined-up across the camp each with a Turkish bath and an open-air yoga platform. Finch Hattons’ pool assumes a lagoon-like feel and look while the state-of-the-art gym is air-conditioned.

Finch Hattons suites feature indoor and outdoor shows with meticulous copper bathtubs, romantic-feel lighting and are fully furnished with chandeliers and hardwood furniture.

Tented suites feature indoor and outdoor showers, copper bathtubs, creamy white linen, gentle lighting, beautiful hardwood writing tables, intricate chandeliers, and all the conveniences you would expect of a first-class offering.

To preserve the history of this ancient camp that has artistically lived up to the expectation of a contemporary camp, it has mini-museum telling more of the facility and Tsavo as a whole. The camp’s antique bar tells an interesting revolution journey decades back.

The restaurant is incredibly gorgeous with a romantic roof-top spot with comfortable sofas set all around thick carpets and a dining section. Finch Hattons decks are panoramically angled to see something special from every direction. Sightings of crocodiles, hippos and a spectacular birdlife takes every shape while on another deck, the splendour of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro drips all over.

The camp has game drives to add to on-camp views of game including lions, leopards, buffalos, elephants, hartebeests, zebras, giraffes, oryx, bushbucks, waterbucks and kudus.
