Prestigious hotel, Hemingways is back to business following a two-month closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Two of the hotel chain’s properties in Kenya, Hemingways Nairobi and Hemingways Watamu have been reopened.
“The Covid-19 preventative measures we have adopted in our properties go above and beyond the minimum government standards to offer complete comfort and security to our guests while ensuring the unique experience of staying at Hemingways Collection is retained,” said Hemingways Collection Group CEO Alastair Addison in a statement.
He added that “As a group, we are positive that Hemingways Nairobi’s and Watamu’s re-opening will be a breath of fresh air within the hospitality industry considering how hard we have been hit as a sector and a positive in charting our path to recovery. We know it won’t be easy but we are delighted to, once again, be welcoming guests.”
Operations at Hemingways Ol Seki Mara are expected to resume soon.
It becomes one of the first five-star hotels to resume business in the country as the government issues tough measures to hoteliers aimed at curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
On Tuesday, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala in a statement said that it has drafted a raft of proposals to govern the tourism and hospitality industry to get them back to business.
The draft protocols seek to achieve four objectives among them, inculcating a sense of preparedness on measure set by the World Health Organization and Ministry of Health in containing the spread of the virus.
The draft proposal also seeks to have guests in these facilities possess a certain level of safety, and rebuild trust and confidence if investing in Kenya as a holiday destination.
Lastly, implement enabling policies to give way to the resumption of businesses in the tourism sector.
Balala added that the proposal are currently undergoing review.
“The final protocols for the sector will be officially unveiled on 1st July 2020,” the statement ends.
