FACTS ABOUT AFRICAN RIVERS

The Nile River is the longest river in the world, stretching over 6,650 kilometers (4,132 miles) in length, and flows through eleven countries including Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.

The Congo River is the deepest river in the world, with a depth of over 220 meters (720 feet) at its deepest point. It is also the second-longest river in Africa, flowing through the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Orange River is the longest river in South Africa, stretching over 2,200 kilometers (1,367 miles) in length. It is also the longest river on the African continent to flow into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Nile River Basin is home to over 160 million people, making it the most populated river basin in Africa.

 The Niger River Basin is one of the largest and most diverse river basins in Africa, covering an area of over 2 million square kilometers (772,000 square miles).

 Many of Africa's rivers are threatened by pollution, overfishing, and dams, which can disrupt river ecosystems and negatively impact the livelihoods of people who depend on them.
