The 2025 World Travel Awards Tanzania will mark in style the 32nd edition of the prestigious WTA Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony set for June 28.
Ephraim Mafuru, the Director-General of Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB), recently announced. He termed this a major development for Tanzania on its tourism front.
Mafuru noted that it was a big honour to host the event in Tanzania for the first time WTA Gala Ceremony is among the biggest and most grandiose travel awards ceremonies held annually on the continent.
Major breakthrough in 2025 World Travel Awards Tanzania
TTB is excited that the 2025 World Travel Awards Tanzania emerged as the single African host of the 32nd WTA edition on the continent. Mexico, the UAE, Italy and Hong Kong will host other continental editions of the awards gala.

Mafuru said that this is an opportunity for Tanzania to showcase its cultural heritage, wildlife safaris, beaches and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In addition, TTB is keen on using this platform to promote medical, sports and business tourism in Tanzania.
The TTB Director-General emphasised that this is the time for Tanzania to shine on the global tourism stage.
The board’s focus is to attract 5.5 million local and international tourists in 2025. Last year, Tanzania received 5.4 million tourists against its projection of five million international arrivals. However, their $6 billion revenue target did not materialise.
Key attractions remain the Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and the Ngorongoro Crater, among others.
Tourism data indicates that the sector contributed 17.2% of the country’s GDP. This was a 12.4% growth in Tanzania’s tourism.

With the 2025 World Travel Awards Tanzania, the general hope is that the country will win more awards this year. Tanzania won four WTA awards in 2024.
Among them was TTB being named Africa’s Leading Tourist Board, and Serengeti National Park being named the Leading African National Park.
